Four Basic Self-Care Routine Components



Self-care is defined as, “the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.” Taking care of yourself can improve your immune system, mood, confidence and self-esteem. Though your self-care routine is customized by you, there are a few components you need to include to help become a better you.



Sleep

Being able to get the proper amount of sleep can help improve yourself both emotionally and physically. However, the majority of adults never reach the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep a night. The reasons can range from stress to lots of activity at night to even sleeping on an old mattress. Consequences of not getting a decent amount of sleep can result in sleep deprivation.


Eating

Having proper nutrition is a big thing when it comes to self-care. The food you decide to consume can have both negative and positive effects on your health and overall well-being. Choosing more nutritional foods such as fruits and vegetables can increase your energy levels and brighten your mood.


Exercising

Adding exercising into your self-care routine can help you physically and mentally. It gives you ability to help your immune system, better your mood and reduce stress. The gym isn’t the only place you can go to in order to work out, you can try yoga in the park or can incorporate simple exercise while you clean your home.


Treat Yourself

One basic component to your self-care routine that some people forget, is to treat yourself. Whether you are working a full-time job, are a stay at home mom or a college student it’s important to take time for yourself. This can range from visiting the salon, having a night in with your favorite movie to taking a week vacation, it’s up to you.
